Meet Ronnie Chatterji
Ronnie Chatterji is an economist and distinguished professor at Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business and Sanford School of Public Policy. The son of two public educators, he wants to put what he knows to work for you as State Treasurer. He will fight to protect pensions, expand access to health care and invest in a brighter future for all North Carolinians.
Ronnie worked for President Obama on both of his campaigns and as his White House economic adviser. He also is an appointed member of Governor Cooper’s Entrepreneurial Council and the NC FIRST Commission, which is tasked with developing a strategy to improve transportation infrastructure in North Carolina.
Ronnie is a leading authority on small business and the role of business in society. His recent book, “Can Business Save the Earth?” explains how business leaders, investors, policymakers and citizens can collaborate to build a more sustainable world. He has a proven record of turning innovative ideas into smart economic policy. He has helped family-owned businesses in North Carolina as well as Fortune 500 companies grow and thrive.
Ronnie is passionate about teaching and learning. His work ignited the League of Innovative Schools, a national network of pioneering school district leaders. He also helped create an online platform to test new educational technologies for K-12 students. Locally, he designed and taught an entrepreneurship class in Durham Public Schools and served on the board of Communities in Schools
Ronnie is honored to be endorsed by a diverse set of organizations and individuals including the North Carolina Association of Educators, NC Sierra Club, NC AFL-CIO, and President Obama.
Ronnie received his Ph.D. from UC Berkeley and his undergraduate degree in economics from Cornell University. Ronnie and his wife Neely are proud residents of Durham where they are raising their three children.
